Because RX 470/480 are Ellemere family which use a different type of acceleration than Baffin family i.e. RX 460 and right now Sierra only supports Baffin acceleration which we are using for our RX 480 to get acceleration.

As RX 480 seems to be PowerPlay 7 card it has it's information for PowerPlay in Tonga_pptable.h with Tonga/Fiji as well. Currently driver ref's a signature in the ROM to know if it has been modified. As we have no method to update this signature to reflect changes in ROM you will get BSOD at OS load (only Linux works).
